Paris is magical. The streets, the boulevards, the cafés, the Eiffel Tower and of course, the style. Paris is of course one of the major Fashion capitals along with London, New York and Milan but it has a certain cachet that is all its own. Time and time again many have tried to crack the secrets of French style, what exactly makes it so chic but that distinctly French flair remains an open mystery. So should we all be seeking to be Parisian pretty?

There is an undeniable French aesthetic touted by houses such as Chanel, Saint Laurent and Dior. On the city’s streets, determined fashionistas and fashionistos brandish their Fashion crowns. But there has been a shift. The traditional stereotypical image of the classic marinière, fitted pants and pointedly stylish jacket and expected palette of navy, black, white and tan has been eroded by trend-led influences. Colour has burst onto the scene and a wave of whimsy has blown across the city’s wardrobes.

But as ever, in the Parisian way. Indeed, Parisians are very good at not giving in to Style overkills. That Parisian touch can be felt in the way they put things together: modern statement pieces that are often paired with Parisian favourites such as Repetto, Isabel Marant or A.P.C. and classic pieces or accessories from the likes of Chanel. In short, it’s a savvy balancing act between the old and the new. And therein lies some Parisian style inspiration to us all.
