“Ambassador Grill & Lounge offers inventive international cuisine in NYC’s most distinctive dining space, a postmodern interior landmark from the height of the 1970s disco era”.

This year I got to celebrate V day, one day before (happy face). I had the pleasure to stay at Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza hotel for the night and have dinner at Ambassador Grill, which is the hotel restaurant. We had the V day prefix menu, so I don’t know what they have listed on their regular menu, but what we had that night was actually pretty tasty; salmon (I really enjoyed the cream it came with), chicken, a yummy salad and desserts, my favorite? was the chocolate chip cookie with the ice cream on top.

About the restaurant:

“ A glittering piece of public theater.”

Our distinct “marble and mirrors” space was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Kevin Roche (Ford Foundation, Metropolitan Museum of Art) and debuted to global acclaim in 1976. The Grill quickly became a sensation on the local dining scene, attracting athletes, celebrities, dignitaries, and global denizens with its aureate atmosphere and decadent brunch buffets.

In 2016 the Grill and adjoining lobby area were slated for renovation, along with the rest of One UN Plaza hotel. Led by international non-profit organization Docomomo, local preservationists banded together and filed a permit for Landmark status with the New York City Preservation Commission—drawing the attention of local media outlets such as the New York Times. As a result of their efforts, the two spaces received Landmark status on January 17, 2017, becoming the city’s 118th Interior Landmark and the youngest structure to ever receive such an honor.

Today, Executive Chef Ayman Mustafa carries on the Grill's cosmopolitan culinary heritage through his seasonal lunch and dinner menus, featuring subtle influences of his native Jordan.

What we ordered:

“New York’s first good hotel dining room since the 1920s.”
— Paul Goldberger, Architectural Critic.
