La Pizza & La Pasta: Calzone Night / by Cinthia Contreras

History. Like their Italian cousin pizza, calzoni (plural of calzone) originated in Naples, Italy during the 18th century. Translated to "pant leg" or "trouser," the calzone's original purpose was to serve as a "walk around pizza." This Italian style turnover is created by folding a full size pizza in half.

Mmm I didn’t know this until our nice waiter informed us.

That night I had to forget the diet and calories and enjoy the incredibly delicious Piccantello and Monfortese, OMG and it worth every calorie.

Located in New York's Flatiron district, La Pizza & La Pasta features two of the best-loved Italian dishes: Napoli-style pizza and artisanal pasta. Enjoy our seasonal selection just steps away from our expert pasta chefs and dough-slinging pizzaioli (pizza makers).
